“I’m always making something,” says Daniel Romano. “It’s not necessarily music, but yes — I wake up every day and I work.” The constantly creative genius Daniel Romano’s latest venture is called Daniel Romano’s Outfit – a Canadian indie rock band shrouded in mystery and known for their intense live shows and uncompromising records. Rightfully so, they’ve earned a reputation as a powerful supergroup led by Daniel Romano, but also featuring Carson McHone, Julianna Riolino, Roddy Rosetti, and Ian Ski Romano. Their latest album was released just last year – ‘Too Hot Too Sleep’ – and this summer, the band will bless Pustervik with country-tinged indie rock. Don’t miss it!
Pearl Charles
Pearl Charles has long been a popular name on Los Angeles’ young alternative rock scene, where her solo EP Pearl Charles was a garage-psychedelic pop trip into the desert, and her superb debut album Sleepless Dreamer made her into a Linda Ronstadt for a new generaion. Rough Trade called the album “The best country pop we’ve heard in years,” and Buzzfeed described it as “A modern June Carter meets Lana Del Rey.”
Over the years, her music has evolved from vintage folk, through garage & psychedelia, into a hybrid of ’70s-scented country disco and soft yacht rock. Earlier this year she released ‘City Lights’ – a magnificent new single – with more new music coming our way soon. Don’t miss her at Stay Out West!
Girl Scout
Starting a band these days is nearly impossible and actually making good music once you’ve done it is even harder. But the Swedish quartet Girl Scout is happy to defy those odds. Since throwing down the gauntlet with their warmly received debut Real Life Human Garbage, the band has been compared to everyone from The Breeders to Snail Mail, while demonstrating a musical finesse that often surpasses them in crisp high resolution. Last year, they released EP number three ’Headache’, and this spring they released a collaborative single together with Terra. The future is surely looking bright for Girl Scout – catch them at Stay Out West!
Carson McHone
Carson McHone is a songwriter from Austin, Texas, now residing in Southern Ontario. McHone’s 2018 internationally released ’Carousel’ was a reimagining of songs from her formative years coming of age playing in dive bars. It established her as a shrewd artist who raises unconventional questions with language equally at home in a poem or a short story. This autumn McHone is back with a brand new album entitled ’Pentimento’. Written in the Texas desert and recorded on the Canadian coast, Pentimento is a layered compilation of life’s shifting circumstances and the disquiet of the world at large.
H.Self
“I’m a genius and you’re not.” Sometimes you just don’t want to write a longer press release than that. Otherwise, just this to add: listen for yourselves. It’s H. Self (known in everyday life as Henric Hammarbäck) who wrote the line, from the song “Hade Jag Bara Sluppit Skador”. Sweden’s country music Muhammad Ali is already earning glowing reviews before the first bell has even rung. Cocky is cool. But he delivers on his promises. Total knockout. After two critically acclaimed albums in English, he released his debut in Swedish, “Skälva”, last year. The follow-up entitled ’Efterskalv’ was released earlier this year. Somehow his music just felt more urgent and relevant in his native language, and he’s been making waves ever since. Don’t miss Sweden’s outlaw country extraordinarie at Stay Out West!
